3D-Mat for erosion control

As seen on the picture above 3D mat is a three dimensional, structured, olive green (darker than the picture, you can see the speedlight lights) erosion control mat manufactured from polypropylene monofilaments.

It is easy the installation slopes upto 60 degrees. Covered with soil after seeding. Provides instant protection against soil erosion due to wind, rain, and flash flooding. Creates an artificial root system. Helps nature.

These type of erosion control products can be used for erosion protection of steep slopes, embankments, riverbanks, lakesides, shorelines, spillways, canals, and ditches. Also highly effective on golf courses and residential lawn areas.

EnkaMat is not an Erosion Control Mat (ECB or Rolled Erosion Control Product). EnkaMat is a Turf Reinforcement Mat (TRM). There is a big difference. EnkaMat is a great TRM, but to enjoy the benefits of a TRM (increased velocity capability in channel water flows), a TRM must become entangled in plant roots. The misconception caused by calling a very open (95% + open area) TRM an erosion control product comes from those who never installed or at least never revisited an installation. In order to vegetate (successfully) an open TRM, an erosion control product (typically a biodegradable wheat straw ECB or similar product) must be installed on top of the SOIL INFILLED TRM. Soil infilled? Yes soil infilled! Look at the manufacturers recommended installation methods. The best way to use a product like EnkaMat is to lay it in place, fill with screened soil, apply seed and other soil amendments, and then apply the appropriate biodegradable Rolled Erosion Control Product. The RECP protects the soil infill from erosion. Without soil infilling, a TRM will end up in the air above an eroded out ditch. The worst part is uneducated salespeople can lead customers/specifiers to believe that all TRM's are useless because of problems like those that I described above.
Note: some TRM's are capable of preventing erosion as well as increasing flow velocities. However, not all TRM's can. Deal with experienced knowledgeable people who are honest and not just selling what they have in stock. I would turn down a sale before letting a customer have a product that I know would fail! It is a pity that everyone is not in the EC/SC industry to educate and grow the industry.
